Japanese Hardware Charts - NDS Leads
Submitted by Rukario on Tue, 10/07/2008 - 17:46.For the third week in a row, Microsoft has outsold Sony again on its home turf, continuing to move Xbox 360s at a respectable clip.
Nintendo remains undaunted in the console wars, as combined sales of both the 360 and PS3 are well below that of the Wii and account for about a third of Nintendo DS sales. In other words, Nintendo rules, everyone else drools, hardware-wise.
Here are the hardware numbers from Media Create for the end of September:
- Nintendo DS - 57,847
- Wii - 26,314
- PSP - 25,671
- Xbox 360 - 11,291
- PlayStation 2 - 9,848
- PlayStation 3 - 8,275
Japanese Software sales 9/28/2008
Submitted by PPNSteve on Thu, 10/02/2008 - 16:18.There’s a new No.1 in the Japanese Software sales this week - Super
Robot Wars Z for PS2 knocked Pokemon Platinum down from its perch to take the top spot with 366 000 copies sold. Pokemon Platinum still sits comfortably at No. 2 with 195 000 copies sold this week, which helps its total copies sold climb to 1,474,000.
Last week’s No. 2, Dragonball Origins for DS, falls down to No. 6 with 30,000 units sold this week, while Rhythm Tengoku Gold, also for DS, is a non-mover at No. 3 with 65,000 in sales for the week. The only other non-new entry to the Top Ten, Wii Fit, remains content with a respectable No. 8 and 21,000 sold, down from No. 6 last week.
There are five other new entries this week, all making a suitable impression, but their numbers may seem a little disappointing to those looking forward to their western releases. More after the break...

DS rules the software sales charts in Japan
Pokemon Platinum leads the assault
The DS had an impressive week for software sales in Japan this week,
with DS titles taking the top three chart slots according to latest
figures from Media Create.
It's Pokémon Platinum which remains at the top of the chart. After selling 963,000 copies after just two days on sale last week, the game is still proving popular with the Pokeball-wielding public, snatching up a further 315,000 copies.
The highest new entry, at number two, is Namco Bandai’s Dragon Ball DS (aka Dragon Ball: Origins), on 72,000 unit sales. The Nintendo DS game is a top-down arcade adventure similar in style to The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass.
The second-highest new entry is the new PlayStation 3 version of what
is known in the West as Eternal Sonata. However, with just 34,000 unit
sales, the game seems to have suffered from releasing after the Xbox
360 version.
